Extravagant displays of devotion to Mary gets curtailed as world culture emphasizes the rational, scientific and technological aspects of life. There seems to be no more time for the more affective expressions of religion. Then, after a while, people get fed up with the absolutely rational and logical culture, and rediscover religion and the affective part of the human soul and its needs.
And Mary is one of those.

That is very true. I work at an office, and before I begin work, I bring out a little figurine of Our Lady, and pray a Hail Mary. Most of my office mates comment about it, some laugh at it, some see it as a sort of a good luck charm, which of course, isnt. I simply put Mama Mary in front of me, because during periods of rest, I talk to her, or pray some short Marian prayers.
We have a treasure in Our Blessed Mother. She loves us as we are shared by her Son hanging on the Cross. Like John, let us bring her home to our hearts and our family and country.
